Pastor Dave Doyle
Dave Doyle is Pastor of Ministry Development. He oversees Kindred University and The Spiritual Leadership Program. He has been at Kindred since October 2009. Thanks to Dave’s legendary leadership, Kindred enjoys a feast of classes that range from hearty expositions of Old and New Testament books to the important history of the Reformation taught by a host of well-equipped instructors. Dave and his hospitable wife, Karla, have been married since December 1983 and have two grown sons, Paul and Keegan.
During his senior year of High School, I became very convicted about my sin and concerned about my eternal destiny. He began to read the Bible to find a solution to my sin problem but it only made him more hopeless as he seemed to only find the passages about hell. After High School, he began his college education in Miami, Florida. During his first semester, he became so hopeless that he prayed one night on the beach, “God if you really exist then I need to hear from You or I will take my life”. God answered that prayer three days later when he received a letter in the mail from a friend back home. In the letter, his friend (who was not a religious person) wrote, “On Wednesday night I attended a church youth group meeting and a man named Dave Wentzel told me about Jesus Christ.” His friend did not indicate their response to the message, but Dave knew his… “I need to talk to this man Dave Wentzel!” The next day Dave went to school and wrote each of his professors a note that explained his soul searching and the reason he was leaving the university. He drove home to the Washington D.C. area and immediately called the friend who had written the letter. He found out where & when the youth group met and with that information he attended the next Wednesday night meeting. About 100 teens met in the large basement of a home that evening. Dave Wentzel explained the gospel to them and that night Dave trusted in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. It was then that Dave realized that God had been pursuing him all along. Dave’s quest to learn about God and enjoy Him on a deeper level was but the beginning of a mind’s transformation. He went back to school and earned a Bachelors in Bible & Theology from Baptist Bible College and a Masters in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary. He has been in full-time ministry since 1984, having served in the roles of Associate Pastor, Church Planter, Senior Pastor, Adjunct Professor of Theology, and Academic Dean.
When Dave isn’t wielding his whiteboard marker scribbling some brilliant diagram to illustrate his doctrinally-detailed note packets, he thoroughly enjoys spending time with his family, travelling here and there, learning more church history, studying more systematic theology, eating Chinese and Indian food, and cheering for the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Bruins and the Broncos.
This inspired Scripture is a constant inspiration to Dave – “Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8 Amen!
