ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

Kindred Community Church (“Kindred”) is a Bible-teaching non-denominational community church located in Anaheim Hills, California. We are a relatively new church with an exciting and awesome history that bears witness to God’s love, provisions and power.

Our multi-generational church family consists of approximately 800 adults ranging in age from 18 to 80, and approximately 175 children ranging in age from newborn to 17. The majority of our congregants live in the nearby cities of Orange, Villa Park, Tustin, Anaheim Hills and Santa Ana. Our desire is to reach more of our neighbors in Anaheim Hills, as well as in Yorba Linda and the western regions of the Inland Empire (e.g., Corona, Norco, Chino Hills, etc.). We have a tremendous opportunity to impact these communities due to the continued growth of family housing developments along the corridor of the 91 Freeway, where very few Bible-teaching churches exist.

OUR PURPOSE

The purpose of Kindred is to glorify God (Eph 3:21) by building the Body up in the faith (Eph 4:13-16); by instruction of the Word (2 Tim 2:2, 15, 3:16-17); by fellowship (Acts 2:47; 1 John 1:3); by keeping the ordinances (Luke 22:19; Acts 2:38-42); and by advancing and communicating the gospel to the entire world (Mat 28:19; Acts 1:8; 2:42).

OUR HISTORY

In January 2003, God called our founding pastor, Chuck Obremski, to start a church based on straightforward expository Bible teaching. He had taught an adult Bible fellowship class for 20 years at Calvary Church of Santa Ana. Kindred began holding Sunday services at the Elk’s Lodge in Santa Ana.  We experienced an immediate and overwhelming response, with an average weekly attendance of over 700 in our first few months. From our first week, Kindred provided an adult worship service, Sunday School classes for children from pre-school through high school, and nursery care. God provided an abundance of gifted people to serve in the Sunday School classes, to lead worship, to set up and tear down the seating, as well as to serve in many other ministry positions. From its very beginning, Kindred has been a church of believers who love serving the Lord in His church and experiencing the joy of using the gifts He has given them. Visitors to Kindred often comment about the love and graciousness they experience at our church, and the large number of people committed to serving in the various ministries of the church. The teaching of the Word, the strong sense of community, and the many opportunities for service draw people to Kindred.

During our first year, the Lord provided us with an opportunity to purchase a large church property in Anaheim Hills, where a smaller church existed for many years. The property had great potential due to its size and its location in an expanding residential area. The property is well known for its large cross atop a hill that has been lit up every night for over 20 years and is seen by millions of motorists traveling on the 91 freeway.

As God opened the door of opportunity to purchase the property, Pastor Chuck was diagnosed with a very rare and serious form of soft-tissue cancer. God provided Pastor Chuck with His peace and direction, together with a vision as to what could be accomplished through Kindred in its new home. In November 2003, Kindred purchased the property. In the spring of 2004, construction began to expand the existing worship center to accommodate a larger congregation, as well as to make other property improvements and add more modular units. During this construction phase, we continued to meet on Sunday mornings at the Elk’s Lodge, and in people’s homes throughout the week for other ministry activities.

On February 6, 2005, the second anniversary of Kindred’s first service, we moved into our new home and celebrated God’s blessings and provision for our new church. We began using our new facilities for Sunday service, and for more classes and events throughout the week, including a mid-week Bible study on Wednesday evenings. During 2005, we saw growth and change in the lives of the people coming to Kindred due to the teaching of God’s Word and the love and ministry of the church body. Many people became involved in leadership and ministry to meet Kindred’s growing needs.

Pastor Chuck’s treatments and surgeries continued, but became less effective as time passed. Nevertheless, God used Chuck and his condition to share the Good News with an ever-growing audience. We distributed Chuck’s messages, recorded on CDs and tapes, throughout the world. Reporters from newspapers and radio and TV stations interviewed Chuck and ran stories about him and his faith in the midst of his deteriorating health.  Throughout this time, Pastor Chuck continued to teach the Word of God. He admonished his listeners to understand and accept God’s will, and to run the race and finish strong.

On September 18, 2005, the Lord called Pastor Chuck home to be with Him after Chuck’s two years of riding the “cancer coaster.”  We miss him greatly but rejoice that he is with his Lord and Savior. We are grateful to God for using him to found Kindred Community Church. Pastor Chuck set an example of loving God’s Word and serving in His church. Since Pastor Chuck’s death, Kindred’s church body has remained strong and committed. In addition, its ministries have continued to function at their same high levels. God has used Kindred in a very powerful way during our first three years; we’re in awe of how He’s using us today and equally excited about what He has for us in the future, as we seek His will, being faithful and available to serve Him.

OUR ORGANIZATION

Kindred is an elder-run church with a combination of pastoral and lay staff responsible for the church’s ministries. There are currently five elders, four associate pastors, three ministry directors and several volunteer leaders, plus church staff members who serve at Kindred.

Membership at Kindred is not required to attend services, but is encouraged. We currently have 425 active members. It is required to hold leadership and ministry positions. Membership indicates commitment to Kindred and ensures agreement with our Doctrinal Statement, i.e., what we believe about our faith. We encourage members in their faith and provide for them foundational teaching, baptism, and opportunities to exercise their spiritual gifts through serving others.

SERVICES AND EVENTS

We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am. Our Sunday service, held in the main sanctuary, begins with prayer and a time of worship, announcements, more worship, and then the teaching of the Word of God. On the first Sunday of each month, we end our service by partaking in communion.

Our sanctuary seats 750. Our multi-purpose room seats another 150 and provides live video of the service when additional seating is needed. As we grow, we plan to hold multiple services, and ultimately, to build a larger sanctuary. Our “master plan” also includes the addition of other buildings.

Children’s Sunday School is held at the same time on Sunday morning as the main worship service with classes for children in pre-school, k-first, second-third, fourth-fifth-sixth, and junior high. High School students attend the regular service, and then meet again on Sunday nights.

We have a 2 mid-week Bible studies on Wednesday evenings. 1 in our multi-purpose room and 1 in the high school room.  There is a large variety of regular and special events that are announced in the bulletin, the church e-newsletter, and may appear on the Kindred website.
